Senior Infants 2017/2018

Tennis Lessons

The girls have started tennis lessons with Wesley O’ Brien.  The girls are having lots of fun learning the game of tennis.

Garda Hilda Comes to Visit

Garda Hilda came to visit us this week. She spoke to us about ‘Stranger Danger’.

Dress Up for World Book Day

The girls dressed up as their favourite character for World Book Day on the day Easter Holidays. They looked amazing! We spoke about our favourite books and characters. It was a lovely day.

We are so eggcited about Easter!

The girls are so ‘eggcited’ about Easter. We created a lovely Art display.

Spring Display

The girls learned about Spring in school. We integrated our Science, Geography and Art lessons and completed a lovely display.

The Talent Show

We had our very first School Talent Show this year. We really have a talented bunch! Well done to all the girls who participated. They were AMAZING!!!

Musical Instruments

We played and learned about musical instruments. We created lovely pieces of music. Great musicians in Senior Infants!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Celebrating Pancake Tuesday

We were very lucky that The Parents’ Council came to school  on the day and served us delicious pancakes. A special thanks to the three ladies – Linda Hogan (Katie’s Mom), Lorna Shanahan (Aubrey’s Mom) and Ciara Jorgensen (Elle’s Mom) , who worked extremely hard on the day.

Happy Pancake Tuesday!

We completed Pancake Tuesday Art work for the special day. We chose delicious toppings for our pancakes. Yummy!

Scooter Workshop

We were lucky to avail of a Scooter Workshop led by Roisin Garvey. This workshop was an initiative that was organised by the Green School committee in our journey to receive our Travel Flag. The girls really enjoyed the workshop and learned many skills. A special thanks to Ms. O Callaghan and the Green School Committee.

10@10

We started the 10@10 on the 22nd of January.  Every Monday to Friday for the next three weeks Gráinne Bleasdale and Micheál Ó Ciaraidh are getting active with us while having fun for 10 minutes, every morning at 10 o’clock. We are getting very fit!

Show and Tell

We brought our toys into class today that we got from Santa. I can certainly say Santa was very good to all the girls. We had a great day today talking about our toys and of course playing with them!!

I-PADS From Clare Education Centre

We are very lucky that we have been given 16 I-PADS from Clare Education Centre until the end of January. We are using them during our Literacy Lift Off time. They are very worthwhile and the girls are enjoying all that they are learning from them.

We received our books from  the Scholistic Book Fair!

We received the free books we got from the Scholistic Book Fair. A special thanks to all families who bought books from the Book Fair. Without you we wouldnt have these books in our class!

We Designed Christmas Trees

The girls were busy designing Christmas Trees.

We Painted Our Christmas Decorations!

The girls were busy painting their Christmas decorations today. They turned out lovely and will be beautiful on their Christmas trees. They are really looking forward to hanging them on their trees.

Christmas Cards For Our Families!

The girls were busy making Christmas cards for our families. We hope you like them.

Santa Claus arrived to our class today!

A special visitor arrived to our class today. We sang a few songs for Santa and he was very impressed.  You will be delighted to know that all the girls are on the good list!

Our Class Representative for the Active School Flag Committee

Áine is our class representative for the Active School Committee. She will keep the class informed on all activities planned for our Active School Flag.

We are learning about 3-D Shapes

The girls worked collaboratively to learn about 3-D shapes. We learned about the properties of 3-D shapes in our groups. We built different objects using 3-D shapes. It was a very worthwhile task which we all enjoyed.

Salt Dough Christmas Decorations

We were busy today making our salt dough Christmas decorations which we will paint tomorrow. We made Christmas trees and snow mans. The girls are really excited to hang their decoration on their Christmas trees. A special thanks to Ms. Morrisey who helped us make our lovely decorations!

Carol Singing Outside Super Valu

The girls sang beautifully outside Super Valu today to raise money for the school. A special thanks to all those who contributed.

The Story of Christmas’

As Christmas is quickly approaching we are learning about the birth of baby Jesus. The girls created a lovely piece of Art work to display their knowledge of the story.

Christmas Panto In U.L. Concert Hall

The girls attended ‘Cinderella’ in the U.L. Concert Hall. The girls really enjoyed themselves. It was a fun filled day. A special thanks to Lorna Shanahan and Martina Coll who attended on the day with us. They were magnificent!!

Christmas Carol Service

Well done to all the Junior and Senior Infants who participated in the school’s Christmas Carole Service. We were very proud of them and I’m sure you will agree. We definitely have a few superstars in the making! The girls looked beautiful in their festive gear.  It was a very enjoyable night. Thank you for attending and supporting the school on the night.

Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer Art Activity

The girls had great fun creating this piece of art work as they had to use to use their hands and feet to create Rudolph!

Our Recounts as Gaeilge

In recent weeks we have been focusing on the writing genre of ‘recount’ in our class. We completed a recount activity as Gaeilge.  It was a lovely story about a snowman. Well done girls. IMAG0589.jpg

The Story of 6

The girls are busy learning the story of 6 in class this week. They are making good progress. They are using lots of concrete materials to aid their understanding. They are grasping the concept very well.

‘Looking through a window on a Snowy Day’ Art Display

We created an Art scene ‘Looking Through A Window On A Snowy Day‘ using chalks and pasteles. The girls grasped the concept very well and their results were outstanding! Could the girls be doing this at Christmas time?!

Our teddies came to visit our class!

We are learning the nursery rhyme ‘Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear’ in class. We had special visitors to our class this week. They saw how hard we work in Senior Infants.  They participated in all our lessons on the day and we also got to play with them at the end of the day.  It was a lovely day!

Recount Writing

In recent weeks we have been focusing on the writing genre of ‘recount’ in our class. During our Aistear time we went on a shopping trip! We wrote out our shopping lists. We drew pictures for our recount plan and we wrote about our trip using these plans. The girls really enjoyed the process.

Winter Display

The girls learned about Winter in school. We integrated our Science, Geography and Art lessons and completed a lovely display.

Energy Workshop with Áine from SEAI

The girls participated in an energy workshop on 17th of November with Áine from SEAI. The girls learnt different ways to save energy at school and at home.  They participated in two experiments. They really enjoyed the practical, hands-on workshop that was presented by Áine.

Friendship Week

We celebrated ‘Friendship Week’ from 16th-20th of October in school. We  created a friendship tree in class. We love to play with all friends.

Halloween Art Display

The girls have great cutting skills and we presented our witches beautifully!

We also painted a Halloween Scene.

Autumn Display

The girls learned about Autumn in school. We integrated our Science, Geography and Art lessons and completed a lovely display.

As part of our ‘Active School Flag’ we had a Pupil Vs Teacher Challenge to celebrate ‘European Fitness Day’. We really enjoyed our day.  The pupils really put it up to the teachers!!

Camogie Training

The girls have started camogie with David Carroll. Lots of skills are being learned. We are really enjoying our training. We definitely have camogie stars of the future!

Healthy Eating

We bring healthy lunches to school. Ms. Griffin is very impressed with all the Mammies and Daddies who make the girl’s lunches! Well done to all!
